The Supreme Court is set to release a decision on DOMA and Prop 8 later this morning, which will affect same sex marriage in the United States.

Voting Rights Act, a historic Civil Rights era legislation, was found to be invalid by the Supreme Court. This ruling disproportionately affects already disenfranchised people of color and immigrants who are subjected to voter suppression tactics.

Paula Deen, a former Food Network Star, has been making her cable news rounds by apologizing for using racial slurs. Her apologies have ranged from blaming her use of racial slurs on her old Southern upbringing, as well as hearing black people themselves use the word.

The murder trial for George Zimmerman continues today. George Zimmerman is being tried for the 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin, a 17 year old from Seminole County, Florida.

Colorado courts rule in favor of a 6 year old girl who was forced to use the boy’s bathroom because of her assigned gender. Highlighting the necessity of creating safe school environments for transgender children, this is a landmark decision.
